Wisconsin’s dairy industry is against the idea of removing “America’s Dairyland” from the state’s license plates. Kurt Bauer, who heads the Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce, put out the idea Monday at a luncheon his group held in Madison. Amy Eckelberg of the state’s Farm Bureau Federation says “no other single product has more of an economic impact in Wisconsin than milk — and it has earned the right to be the state’s slogan on its license plate. Mike North of the Dairy Business Association says the move would be “disheartening,” considering that the dairy industry has a 43-billion dollar annual impact on the state’s economy. Bauer later told the Wisconsin State Journal he only wanted to start the conversation — he said other exciting things are happening with the state’s economy like Foxconn’s new L-C-D screen plant — and he thinks the word “Forward” would be more appropriate.
