A long proposed expansion of Highway 23 from Fond du Lac to Plymouth is back on the front burner. A fourth environmental impact statement is about to be prepared for an expansion of the two lane road to four lanes, and a meeting was held about it Thursday at U-W Fond du Lac. Six people have been killed in traffic crashes on Highway 23 during the five years ending in 2016, and safety advocates say a four lane expressway is long overdue. But opponents won a lawsuit that halted the project a few years ago. State Assembly Republican Jeremy Thiesfeldt (thees’felt) of Fond du Lac says he was able to get funds in the new state budget for an environmental review — and he’s hoping that litigation will not hold up the expansion again.
