A second grader at Manitowoc’s Jefferson Elementary School has already learned it’s good to help-a-friend who’s in need. 7-year old Nadia Salinas (suh-lee’-nus) has raised over 600-dollars to support a 1-year old family friend who has gone thru major surgery following a serious accident at home. Nadia started “Project Maxwell Rocks” early this month after ‘Max’ sustained a very serious head injury and spent 10-days at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee. Salinas and her family decided on the fundraiser after visiting the 1-year old child in the hospital. Joined by her grandmother, Sue Behnke, Nadia painted designs like butterflies & flowers on decorative rocks…then sold them with proceeds going to Max’s family. Her grandpa, Doug..also raffled off a brand new bike and they were able to raise $608-dollars in just a few weeks. The funds have gone for gift and gas cards to help the family defray expenses for their commutes to Milwaukee. Young Max, meanwhile, is recovering and doing well.
