Fewer than half of Wisconsin’s public and voucher school kids were proficient in math, science, and English in the state’s standardized Forward Exam from last spring. State officials say the overall test scores were about steady from last year, the first year the Forward Exam was given — and scores for English and language arts rose by up to three-point-four percent. Steady results were also reported in the A-C-T-Plus Writing exam and the Dynamic Learning Maps test given to those with cognitive disabilities — and about 453-thousand youngsters took the 2017 exams in the spring. The state’s education agency says 43-percent in the Forward exam scored proficient or higher in English, 42-percent in science, and 40-percent in math. Minority youngsters continued to score below others in all three categories.
