The Lester Public Library’s Fall Reading Challenge recently concluded and participants of all ages have been collecting their fun prizes—from Eric Carle themed book bags and autumn-scented soaps to a $25 Schroeder’s Department Store gift certificate and free books.
We conduct our reading challenges via Beanstack, a web and mobile app. Participants log the books they read to earn digital badges, actual prizes and automatic entries into prize drawings.
If you’re a parent, Beanstack simplifies logging children’s reading; if you read one book to multiple kids, you just have to enter the title (or scan the book’s barcode) ONCE.
You can also maintain your personal reading record. Lots of folks like to keep track of what they’ve read. The library doesn’t keep those records (because we’re protectors of your privacy), but you can with Beanstack. Download the app or access it from www.lesterlibrary.org.
Consider registering for upcoming challenges. Our Winter Reading Challenge for all ages begins Jan. 17. Children and teens ages 0-17 can earn a series of wintry prizes! Adults only have to read one book to receive a handy ice scraper (and subsequent reading earns entries into a drawing for $25 in Chamber Bucks).
We also have a brand-new year-long reading challenge for ages 14+ that starts Jan. 1: The Above Average Reader Book Challenge. According to the Pew Research Center, American adults read an average of 12 books per year, with half reading four or fewer. Do you find yourself ranking below average? We challenge you to step up your game! Earn a digital badge each month when you read at least two books. Become a member of “the better half” when you log book #5 (you’re still below average, but you’re less below average than half of America!). Upon completing your 13th book, you become an ABOVE AVERAGE reader and, as such, will receive a congratulatory canvas tote. Continue reading to achieve SUPERIOR READER status; if you log 52 books in one year’s time, receive an exclusive patch for your tote.
This is your opportunity to shine! Bragging rights are at stake.
So, pop in and stock up. Lester Public Library is just off Memorial Drive in Two Rivers. Just look for the beautiful building with a wall of windows facing always-spectacular Lake Michigan. Reserve books and utilize our VERY convenient drive-thru window to pick them up. Even better, come inside to say hello, get something wonderful to read (which we can help you find!) and choose your spot to nestle: by the fire, or at a sunny window with an unbeatable view.
