A 30-year-old Manitowoc woman is free on a $2,000 recognizance bond after being taken into custody Thursday afternoon after being found in possession of methamphetamine. Samantha Blanchette is charged with two counts of possession of illegal prescriptions and one count each of possession of meth and drug paraphernalia. Officers pulled over a vehicle driven by Blanchette after she failed to use a turn signal while turning onto South 10th from Franklin Street. A run of her license plate revealed she had a previous history of contact with drug dealers and drug use. Officers asked if she had any illegal substances in her vehicle, Blanchette admitted to having meth in a bag but claimed it wasn’t hers. She claimed the drugs came from a person she gave a ride to while working for Uber. However, there was no sticker on the vehicle indicating she worked for the ridesharing app and she was taken into custody. Conditions of bail are that Blanchette possess no illegal substances and maintain absolute sobriety from drugs and alcohol. Her initial appearance is scheduled for January 7th at 1:30.
