The District Attorney in Manitowoc County said this week that she’d like to see an understaffing problem in D-A’s offices addressed both locally and statewide. Jacalyn LaBre tells Seehafer News.
She said that has a ‘ripple effect’ throughout the court system.
LaBre also said the shortage is ‘harming victims rights’ as well.
The local district attorney said there’s also a shortage of judges in certain counties and she points out Manitowoc County is supposed to have 4 jurists on the bench, but only has 3. LaBre said the understaffing issue has been brought to the attention of the state legislature, but a bill in the Assembly last year to ‘remedy’ the problem didn’t get through for Governor Walker’s signature, due to other factors. She said they plan to seek support of needed changes from Governor-elect Tony Evers.
