Tomorrow is opening day for the deer gun season, a day which has basicly turned into a state holiday of sorts. While we encourage hunters to go out and fill their tags, DNR Conservation Warden, Alyssa Neff-Miller says that safety must remain a top priority.
Despite the shear number of people in the woods with loaded firearms, Alyssa told us that hunting is a very safe activity.
DNR Big Game Ecologist Kevin Wallenfang released a statement yesterday morning, saying “…we still have 850,000 hunters in Wisconsin, about 88% of those deer hunt, and our trends are not dropping at the same rate as they are in other states.” Neff-Miller reacted to the statistics.
We asked the Conservation Warden if she was going to be hitting the woods this weekend, and she told us that she will have to work all weekend, so she will niot be able to snag that trophy buck, but she has extended bow season to look forward to.
