The La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office is pointing to a near-fatal heroin overdose as evidence it needs a 118-thousand dollar security scanner. The equipment is something like the ones used by T-S-A agents at airports. It would would sit in the jail’s receiving area and help jailers spot drugs being smuggled into the facility. Sheriff Steve Helgeson says deputies have had to administer Narcan to overdosing inmates several times this year.
