After reaching the 2nd round of the WIAA Football playoffs last Fall the Manitowoc Lutheran Lancers are hoping to repeat or better that performance this season. Dave Uhlhorn is entering his 4th season as the Head Coach at Lutheran and he’s generally pleased with the turnout.
Uhlhorn says the one skill guy who’s returning in the backfield is Evan Lischka.
Other backs with some experience are Noah Ungemach & Ryan Wendt, both seniors. The Lancers coach added this will be one of the larger offensive lines he’s had in recent years. The decision to play football by junior basketball standout, Trey Zastrow, who is the starting Quarterback is a welcome addition.
The top receiving candidate is incoming junior Santana Lomibao, who also impressed in the defensive backfield. Lutheran will begin its’ season tomorrow night with a Big East Conference road game against Howards Grove.
Uhlhorn says his program roster includes 10-seniors, 6-sophomores, 6-juniors and 8-freshmen. Their goal is to reach the 3rd round of the WIAA playoffs, where the school has never been before.
