Manitowoc County Clerk Lois Kiel said voter turnout in the county yesterday was ‘19%’ of all eligible voters. In the Democratic primary for Governor, state winner Tony Evers was on 2,475 Ballots. The next best finisher was Kelda Roys garnered 4-hundred-65 votes, locally. For GOP U.S. Senator Leah Vukmir defeated Kevin Nicholson in Manitowoc County by a 132 vote margin: 3,140 to 3,008. In the Republican primary for 1st district State Senate Andre Jacque breezed past challenger Bill Nauta, 1,897 to 276. Jacque will oppose Democrat Caleb Frostman, who ran unopposed. Kiel said in a news release that the highest vote turnout in the city of Manitowoc came in District 10, where 25% of those eligible to vote came to the polling place. District-2 in Two Rivers had 24%, but the best overall figures in Manitowoc County were the Towns of Meeme & Two Creeks at 28, and 27% respectively.
Meanwhile, Shea Sortwell of Two Rivers has advanced to the November election after defeating Dean Raasch of De Pere in the 2nd Assembly district GOP race on Tuesday. Sortwell received 1,254 votes in the Manitowoc County portion of the district compared to Raasch’s 747. He’ll face Democrat Mark Grams of Two Rivers after Grams ran unopposed. The winner will take over the Assembly seat from Andre Jacque who is seeking the 9th district Senate post instead.
