Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department responded yesterday morning to a house fire in the 900 block of Rosemere Circle. The call came in about 8:30 AM from a neighbor who saw smoke coming from the structure. Chief Todd Blaser said personnel arriving on scene noticed smoke was visible from the ridgeline of the home. No-one was inside the residence at the time of the call. The fire in the basement was quickly extinguished with smoke damage reported on the first floor. The cause of the blaze appears to have been a mechanical issue with a basement dehumidifier. Fire crews were on scene for around an hour and a half. Chief Blaser noted the neighbor’s action in contacting his department ‘minimized’ the severity of the fire and enabled personnel to perform quick action to suppress it.
