It is obvious to most that leaving a child or pet in a car on a hot day is extremely dangerous for them, some people still make the mistake of doing it anyways. If you see a child or pet in a locked car and believe them to be in danger, you are covered by the Good Samaritan law, but you have to follow the proper steps. First, you have to call 9-1-1. After the call, you must either stay by the car, or leave a note with your contact information for the police. If you believe the individual in the car is in immediate danger, still call the police, then check to see if the door is unlocked prior to smashing in a window. Follow these simple steps, as you can avoid being hit with damage to property charges.
