A western Wisconsin mother has lost her child and her freedom after her infant daughter suffered serious injuries two years ago. A Pierce County judge sentenced Michaela Sousa to eight years in prison Tuesday. The baby was four months old when she was hospitalized in 2016, suffering from brain and spinal injuries. Sousa told investigators several stories which turned out to be false. The judge has ordered her to have no contact with the child or the foster family. She also can’t use drugs or alcohol while on extended supervision.
