Fitchburg police say a recent increase in gun violence isn’t normal and officers are doing everything possible to address the problem. The department is holding community meetings to discuss the situation. One gathering was held last Thursday. Officers have responded to five reports of shots-fired in the last week. Police Chief Chad Brecklin says he is trying to get more officers out on patrol to find the people doing the shooting. Limited staffing may stop the chief from adding a neighborhood officer dedicated to the part of Fitchburg where the shootings have been happening.
