Call Eric Thames a “Reds killer.”
That three-run home run in the seventh inning gave the Brewers the lead it needed in a 6-4 win at Cincinnati Thursday. It was actually Thames first homer off of a lefty this year.
Although he has seen plenty of success agains the reds in the past, Thames said he doesn’t dwell on it.
Brewers starting pitcher Junior Guerra gave up a pair of homers but pitched six innings to earn his fourth victory of the season. Corey Knebel locked down his eighth save. Keon Broxton, who is back on the active roster in place of the injured Lorenzo Cain, praised the bullpen.
The Reds are in last place in the National League Central Division, but they came into the game with nine victories in their last 10 starts. The benches and bullpens for both teams ran onto the field in the third inning when the Reds’ Joey Votto exchanged words with Brewers catcher Erik Kratz. Chase Anderson starts today’s game in Cincinnati. He already has one win over the Reds this season.
