The Manitowoc American Legion baseball team opened its’ season yesterday by splitting a pair of games at De Pere. The varsity squad coached by Kevin Stangel rallied for a 7-to-6 win over Marshfield by scoring ‘4’ times in the bottom of the 7th inning. David Heinzen earned the win in relief of starter Andrew Eberhardt. Kelvin Veldre went 2-for-4 with a walk-off grand-slam homer! Jacob DeBruin reached base 3-times by going 2-for-3 and was hit by a pitch ahead of the Veldre homerun. Then, in game-2 with ‘De Pere’, the host team outlasted Manitowoc 5-4 in 9-innings. Adam Taylor..suffered the loss in relief of starting pitcher Chase Kersten. Post-88 outhit their opponent 10-to-9, but 3-errors hurt their cause. Jared lensmeyer & Ethan Jagemann both went 2-for-5 at the plate. Manitowoc is scheduled to host Fond du lac tomorrow evening.
