As the start of the school year draws closer, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service has announced eligibility guidelines for meals served at schools and day care programs based on federal poverty levels. The requirements to receive a free or discounted school meal depend on the size of the household, and how much money is brought into the household. The current income guidelines began July 1 and will remain in effect until June 30, 2018.
